My friend and I visited Cedar Key for a day trip out of Gainesville. We stopped by Away from the World and were extremely happy with our dining experience. The waitress was extremely helpful, very attentive and friendly. I ordered the blacked Grouper Sandwich and it was amazing! So fresh and tasty! I highly recommend it!

So delicious!!! The fries are to die for. Also got the pig burger and even though I couldn't finish even half of it!! Great craft beers on tap, great view, friendly staff. Just so much yes!!!

The previous 1 star review was unfortunate, but if that reviewer had waited, she would have not given one star. The menu has great variety.The clams are excellent but the show stopper is the Manhatten clam chowder which is the best I have ever had. We were waited on by Laia, or should I say Princess Laia. She is delightful! Ask for her. Away from the World Cafe is a MUST!

Ok sooo what can I say other than great food, great menu, great beers, great views, the owners are courteous and kind and really care about their customers. I have been a fan since they started on 2nd street Definitely a must try. I am a hardcore foodie and it is my favourite local spot on the island.

I went with friends during festival time. They kept wanting us to go upstairs to eat, but we saw the deck on the water, off the bar & wanted to dine ouside on the water. Long story short, our server was not of this world and had no business working. She had a filthy mouth and was plain rude & disrespectful. The food finally appeared and was cold, old & totally unappealing. We eventually found our server to return the uneaten food and we're met with more verbal abuse. Hey, I am on vacation & just looking to chill & get some edible food, not verbal abuse along with crappy food. Maybe the festival just got them in the weeds & they hired some temporary help. I have no idea what the issues were that evening, but it was bad. I will return to Cedar Key & may even give Away From the World another shot, not during festival time, based on the other reviews I have read. What's a girl to do? Gotta love festival time, but love Cedar Key anytime.

2 meals with drink will cost you in the 20s. I had pancakes with eggs sausage and home fries. All of it was pretty good. The coffee was good as well. My gf had the shrimp and grits. It was plain bad. As in it tasted of burned garlic and was so garlic in flavor you couldn't taste anything else. aside from the food the service was bad. Getting a top off of coffee was near impossible. We had to get our own silverware. Had to beg to get syrup. Couldn't get anyone to bring a cup of water and I would normally have said take the shrimp and grits off the bill because it was inedible but we feared we would never get out of the place if we had to wait for someone to help is with that.

Went here for lunch. Ordered an It Was Me burger and a medium spice Bloody Mary. The burger was delicious, as were the beer battered fries. After paying for our meal and enduring some pretty awful music, we were informed by our waitress that all the bloody Mary's were made with wine and not vodka- which left me feeling a bit cheated and particularly annoyed. Go for the food, sit on the patio by the water and just order a beer.

This is the perfect place to get breakfast in Cedar Key. It's a clean and uniquely decorated little cafe above Black Dog with its own deck out back. The service was great, and our coffee was never empty. I ordered the Satellite, which was essentially an Eggs Benedict dish but served on a bagel. It was a little on the salty side for my tastes, but very enjoyable nonetheless.

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND followers this is a great stop for you. Beautiful views, awesome wings!!! Great local craft beer. We stopped here twice,.. once for an amazing breakfast and another in the afternoon for drinks to get the bar hopping started. My husband the wing connoiseur gave the wings 10/10, understandable since the owners are from upstate New York. This place was fun,.. we will be back!!!

View from the back deck was amazing! Ordered the Rightous Loaded Fries, they were THE BEST! Buckets of beer only $10.00. Waitress Melissa was wonderful! Attentive and knowledgable. Not sure where the negative reviews came from. I highly recommend this place when in Cedar Key.

Absolutely perfectly wonderful view, lovely breakfast. The only thing that keeps me from giving this a five is that they drastically over cook the eggs in our omelets. Service was good and friendly and did I mention, the view is spectacular perfection?? Shrimp and leaks and avocado in my omelette, all prepared very well. Definitely recommended for breakfast

Away From the World seemed to be a promising, fresh outlook on food and dining that you don't usually expect from the Jimmy Buffet-weathered Gulf town of Cedar Key, and I was very excited to try the fare they had to offer. The decor and atmosphere had local artist charm, but I found myself standing, waiting to be seated (as the sign told me to) for five entire minutes. The restaurant wasn't too occupied, and those that were working on drinks gave me glances but didn't acknowledge me with even the friendly "Someone will be right with you!" That I'd expect. No, instead I stood there feeling quite awkward as the ladies made their drinks and the waitress/hostess screamed at the cook from inside of the kitchen, throwing sass and obscenity over some incorrect order or other. I left as soon as I got the message I wouldn't be assisted. I never got to eat here so I can't give anything more than my experience - zero stars, if I could. Be more attentive to your guests, AftW.
